Greg Vereschagin has lived in the Ocooch Mountain region of southwestern Wisconsin for 20 years. The forest, abundant in maple, oak, hickory, black walnut, and cherry, continuously beckons his imagination with images of Treestyle furniture.
Beginning with bent willow and hickory items, he quickly found a clientele at Chicago's 57th Street Art Fair. Greg sold hundreds of pieces of furniture at 57th St. over a period of 15 years, but kept few photos of the pieces he sold. It's only been in the past few months that he decided to feature Treestyle on the web, so, until the portfolio is better-built, the examples shown on this website are limited.
Stemming from contacts made at the 57th St. Art Fair, Greg began working with Chicago architects and interior designers. Within the relatively financially-liberated world of custom design, Greg's imagination and flair for problem-solving, combined with his superb craftsmanship, has produced some extraordinary home interiors. Chicago Magazine (Aug. 1997) featured an Amish barn-styled home in southwestern Wisconsin whose interior was entirely furnished by Greg.
Since 1997, Greg and his son, Sasha, have built a number of homes and renovated several others in Chicago's Gold Coast and North Shore areas.
The midwest is full of old barns, houses, mills, factories, etc., that are being "deconstructed" -- carefully torn down to preserve the vintage wood and other furnishings -- for various reasons (progress, y'know).
Greg has contact with several such deconstructionists to obtain this reclaimed wood, with which he loves to work. "Vintage wood has matured; it won't shrink, and the way it looks now is the way it will look in a century." The simple dimensions of a large piece of reclaimed hardwood are often impossible to duplicate -- with any single piece of wood -- from conventional supply outlets.
Greg loves to tackle the challenges presented by any project: "The tougher the design concept, the more fun it is," he says. The beauty of his finished projects speaks for itself.
While the projects featured on this site are all located in or near Chicago, Greg likes to travel and will consider working anywhere. Hint: Inquiries from Jackson Hole, Telluride, and the Black Hills get priority!
Please browse the site to get the flavor of some of the projects and furniture Greg has completed. Then email Greg, and ask for an initial consultation on your ideas for a project. If you put your phone number in the message, Greg will get back to you quite quickly.
After the initial conversation, if both you and Greg want to proceed, Greg will give you several references, with whom you can personally check the quality of his work.
